My 2015 #Gratitude List Wk 2

It has not been an easy week for me at home and at work and I am struggling to remember specific things that I’m thankful for. Nonetheless, I am choosing to think back to how the week has been and take this opportunity to count my blessings, reflect on positive things from the week (though I feel quite drained), and give thanks to God for His goodness and provision.  My 2015 Weekly Gratitude List

Here is my second gratitude list:

Family Life

  • My husband’s first birthday since we became parents! We didn’t do anything particularly to celebrate it but it was a very special day for me. It got me thinking about birthdays and my husband in ways I hadn’t thought before and I’ll be writing about this shortly.
  • My son is now 11 months old! I still can’t comprehend the fact that I’ve been in ‘motherdom’ for that long and that my maternity leave is over (giving my husband the opportunity to also have some focused time with Precious Sparkle at this early point in his life). 11 months seems like a long time, doesn’t it? It’s like he was born yesterday on the one hand, and so long ago on the other hand. I’m finding that my birth experience is becoming more of a distant memory; I feel a need to sit down soon and capture it in words as much as I can before it becomes too much of a blur.
  • Precious Sparkle’s confidence in walking without support continues to grow; he is taking so many more steps unaided and keeping us on our toes. We need to move a number of things out of his reach; what an adventure to be part of, what a privilege to watch him grow!
  • Unfortunately, Precious Sparkle’s nose started running again, but I’m glad that he is still able to breastfeed well enough. It’s hard watching him struggle with it, but I’m thankful I don’t have to pump like I had to a few times last month when he couldn’t feed well because of his nose.

Working Breastfeeding Mum

  • It has been another successful week of going home to breastfeed at lunch times. It keeps me grounded in a way I’m still making sense of; it’s one of my constant motivation to plan ahead. I can’t rely on my lunch times anymore to get my teaching resources for my last lesson together and this is helpful for my organisation.
  • I am so blessed to know so many lovely people who continue to pray for me about juggling work and family life; it’s so encouraging to have so many caring people having your back when you feel you’re still trying to find your feet.
  • My colleagues have been so gracious to me as I adjust back to work and many have helped me in different ways at such short notice. I don’t know how I would have managed this week at work without them.

Blogging

  • It was a pleasant surprise to get a response from Lebara after tweeting them a link to my gratitude list from last week, to check out my reference to them. 🙂
  • I think I am a step closer to finding out why my blog sends pingbacks of my posts to some of the linkys I participate in. I find these unplanned pingbacks embarrassing and annoying and I feel a need to apologise for them on the linky post I find them. I hope I find out definitely how to stop them from happening.
  • It’s so lovely to ‘tweet meet’ more lovely mummy bloggers, and read so many thoughtful posts and comments. I have learnt new vital information from some of them, some have been really good food for thought, and others have added to my consideration of issues that have been on my mind. I’m thinking of starting a weekly round-up of some of this posts for my record.
  • Thanks to an opportunity that blogging opened for me, I should be hosting my first blog competition soon! I’m looking forward to being the one that announces the winner, instead of waiting for the winner to be announced. 🙂

Wow, the week doesn’t feel as difficult anymore; I feel so blessed and so fortunate! There is definitely comfort and contentment to be found in counting one’s blessings. 🙂 I am now looking forward to the weekend.

What are you thankful for this week?

  1. Great list – how lovely to try to focus on the positives and give thanks for them and so glad that so many people are praying for you with regards to juggling work and family life – hope you are starting to settle into being back at work.

I think you can turn off pingbacks under Settings>Discussion – if you uncheck the box that says ‘attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article’ that should turn them off.

Hope you have a lovely weekend 🙂

    • Hello Louise, thanks for dropping by. Yeah, it really makes a difference thinking about the positives and being thankful for them. I’m trying to find my new balance with work and I really appreciate many lovely people in my praying about this. Thanks for your help with the pingbacks, I already did this but I found out that they are automatically sent to linked wordpress sites; I’ll continue to explore I understanding its workings better.

  2. Hi 🙂 I’m visiting for the weekend blog hop, and I am intrigued by that problem you mention about the unplanned ping to linkys. My sister and I are just getting into linkys. Like, she just started her first one last week. She’s using a free tool to see if it’s viable and planning to invest in a premium app if it flies.

Unplanned pings could be a headache. I did even know it was possible to send pingbacks to a linky.

    • Thanks for dropping by Gene’O. All the best with your linky. The ping gets sent to the host’s linky post, and thankfully not to everyone in the linky. I don’t know how others feel about unplanned pings but I definitely don’t like them. I’ll share my findings when I make more sense of how to stop it from happening. 🙂

  3. Glad you are still able to breastfeed even though you are still working, makes going to work a little easier when you know you can still do those mother duties too 🙂
I look forward to joining in with your competition 🙂

  4. I find that sitting down to write down what you’re grateful for can seem like a tough task at times but then once you’ve done it, you realise that there’s more good things that have happened than you first thought. That’s why it’s so important to make lists like these.

How exciting that you may have your first competition – I shall keep an eye open for that one. 🙂

Thanks for joining in with our #HappyDaysLinky

  5. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad week, but it’s great that you’ve still managed to put so many wonderful things into your gratitude list.

As far as your pingback problem goes I don’t know if you’re self hosted but if you are it might be that your blog has defaulted to sending a pingback to any other blogs that you link to. Try logging into your admin page then look under Settings–Discussion and uncheck the (‘Attempt to notify…’) box at the top if it’s checked.

    • Thanks Vickie, there’s so much to be thankful for when we really look, especially during difficult things when it’s hard to see them. I’m more chilled about the pingback thing now. My setting is fine, but I now understand that wordpress automatically pings other wordpress linked posts (I think anyway; I read up on this a while ago). 🙂

  6. A great week! You are fab being able to breastfeed at work! That is real dedication!
I dread to think how many pingbacks I send here there and everywhere. I sometimes get them from others but I like to see that they have linked to me, it is a compliment 🙂

    • Thanks Katy, I’m so glad to be able to continue to breastfeed during the day even though I’m back at work. I’m learning to chill out about the whole pingback thing; you’re right, it’s a compliment really. Looking forward to linking again soon.

    • Thanks Hannah, Yeah, I’m thankful for the opportunity to feed at lunch and for my supportive employer. Even more, i’m thankful to live in a country that allows women to make breastfeeding work for them after they return to work.

  7. Morning lovely, I hope you’ve had a better week! But this is such a great way to remind you it wasn’t all bad 🙂 regarding the ping backs, I wouldn’t worry about it at all (I’m not bothered!) – I think when you link to a specific post, they get a notification, it’s kind of nice to know who’s been linking to you! If you link to the homepage (so mine would be mumsdays.com) you don’t get the ping back, or at least I don’t! Please don’t be embarrassed though 🙂 xxx

    • You’re so kind Hannah, thanks for your lovely comment. It’s helpful to know that bloggers who receive pingbacks might not actually be bothered by it. I suppose I find it annoying when I’m just sorting out my linky notices on my posts and they result in unplanned pingbacks. It’s helpful to know that it’s probably only posts that get pingbacks, and not pages. I suppose my embarrassment is due to not wanting folks to think I’m using them, through pingbacks, to get more readers for my posts. A lot of living and learning in the blogging world, like in life 🙂 It’s definitely not the big deal I’m making it. 🙂
I look forward to joining your linky again soon.

  8. Hi

Just having a little read at your list. I found it so difficult to breastfeed when I went back to work and had to cut down.

Are these the linkes you were talking about?

    Debbie x

    • Hello Debbie, thanks for dropping by. Breastfeeding can be so difficult and it’s not easy juggling it with returning to work. Yeah, this linky and others but the pingbacks are the result of how I link. I’ll probably write a post about it sometime but it’s no big deal really.
