A is for Ardo Calypso Breast Pump
If you’ve read my ‘a bit about me’ page, you’ll know that breastfeeding is one of my mothering tools! 🙂
Breastfeeding, though natural, didn’t come naturally for me (I’ll be writing about this soon). It perplexed me and I struggled with it for many months.
One of the breastfeeding aids that helped to save my breastfeeding relationship was the Ardo Calypso Breast Pump; a very good electric Swiss made breast pump. I loaned it from one of the Children Centre’s in my area; and I used it for hours every day for over 3 months. 🙂
Below are the top 5 things I especially like about it!
1. It is Who Compliant:
Ardo Calypso Breast Pump is a WHO compliant product.
I must say that I have a bias towards products that support, promote, and protect breastfeeding in any way. 🙂
2. It is a Closed Pump System:
Even more, I really like the fact that Ardo Calypso Breast Pump is a CLOSED PUMP SYSTEM. Its vacuum seal technology, enabled by its flexible membrane pot part, creates a 100% barrier between your milk and the pump. You know your milk is safe from potential contamination during the pumping process.
As a result of this, the tube that links the bottle to the pump does not have to be washed!
It also means that an Ardo Calypso Breast Pump can be used by more than one person (it it’s still in good working condition), with a new pump set.
3. Its DESIGN is very PRACTICAL and COST EFFECTIVE:
I like the fact that you can very easily CONVERT a single pump to a double pump by just buying the double pumpset.
Ardo has made this process really simple with its genius design of the tube connector which links the pump and tube to the milk collecting bottle(s)! You basically close one of the connector’s two outlets with its attached cap when using it as a single pump, and none when using it as a double pump.
I also like the fact that you have full control over the vacuum and circle settings. It comes with a simple pictorial instruction card that tells you how to use the settings to get the most from your pumping experience.
I start with a very high vacuum and low circle to help my let down, then reduce the vacuum and increase the circle. I repeat the process as needed during each pumping session, to help me get the most milk.
In addition, the pump set is very easy to wash and sterilise; only 4 parts – bottle(s), breast shell, membrane pot, and lip valve – needs to be dismantled and washed.
I wash them in warm soapy water, and sterilise in cold water using Milton tablets.
Furthermore, they have 3 breast shell sizes that fit the milk collecting bottles. It is important to use the right size for a comfortable and optimal pumping experience.
You can also buy their massage inserts to enhance the milk flow process but it didn’t work for me; I found the breast shells comfortable enough.
Lastly, all accessories and replacement parts, as well as the pump are available directly from Ardo, at reasonable prices.
I remember how frustrated I was when I found out I couldn’t buy replacement parts for the pump I used before the Calypso, from its manufacture! 🙁
For example, 5 Easy Clean Microwave Bag (for 100 steam sterilising) costs £7.95, 20 Easy Freeze Bags (for direct pumping) £8.95, 30 3D Day and Night Breast Pads £4.95, tube connector 90p, membrane pot £2.10 etc.
4. Quiet pumping experience:
Every pumping mum knows the value of a quiet pump when you have to pump in the same room as your sleeping baby, or in the middle of the night when you’re especially keeping noise to the minimum because of your neighbours.
The Ardo Calypso Breast Pump is way quieter than I expected from a pump with its capacity!
5. Excellent and compassionate customer service support:
When you’re hormonal and in pain … perturbed about your difficult breastfeeding journey … desperate to produce the milk your little baby needs for his or her nourishment … compassionate responses especially go a long way!
I will always remember the wonderful reception I received on the few occasions I called Ardo’s customer service in relation to the Ardo Calypso Breast Pump. The level of compassion and kindness from the lady who spoke with me at those very low points on my journey will always be appreciated. I called in tears, despair and desperation; I put the phone down with hope, promise and smiles.
It has been so difficult narrowing down what I like about the Ardo Calypso Breast Pump to just 5 things. I’ve not even mentioned its incredible guarantee that provides the average mum with a manufacturers’ warranty for TWO consecutive babies!
I highly rate the Ardo Calypso Breast Pump as a safe, compact, and ‘green’ hospital grade pump with really good value for money! So much so that I’m starting my actual participation in the fab A to Z Blogging Challenge where I’m CONSIDERING my MOTHERHOOD journey, with it. Ardo doesn’t know I’ve done this but I’ll be sure to share my post with them!
Do you use a breast pump? What do you like about it?
