My Sunday Photo 25: 2 Very Nutty Squirrels

Precious Sparkle and I were on our way back to church when I spotted a couple feeding 2 Squirrels in the green space behind another church. I was so delighted I had my camera with me, and it didn’t take long to snap away. My little man was happy watching the squirrels dart around, here and there, as they tried to catch the nuts being thrown at them. My word, what a pair of very nutty Squirrels they were.MSP 25 Squirrel with nut facing forward

My word, squirrels hey! Never a dull moment for them. They are nuts mad, aren’t they. Monkey nuts, Hazelnuts, Walnuts … you name it, they probably eat it.

I only ever see them pause for a few seconds, they’re usually on the move. I can’t forget the ones I captured eating from someone’s hand, and the one that seemed to watch me from the side opening of a bin. I never cease to be amazed at how quickly they run; diving into the ground as they dig for food.

I wonder why people stop to feed them? I suppose they make for an interesting sight whilst out and about. There’s definitely something captivating about a squirrel feeding on a nut.

It’s worth nothing that there was a good distance between us and the Squirrels; I prefer to mind the gap in this instance. πŸ™‚ The closeups are thanks to my camera’s zoom. I can’t get over how much detail one can capture through the zoom of a camera’s lens. It makes looking through camera shots on the computer so much more exciting.

The Squirrels were too small, too far, and too fast for me to see what my camera captured. My camera doesn’t always take pictures in the way and quality that I would like. However, it has delivered beyond expectation many times, and I need to remember this when next I get annoyed with it. πŸ™‚

Have you ever fed Squirrels or watched them being fed?

  1. Oh I love the first one, a total caught in the act moment.
Squirrels are bonkers, such hyper creatures that getting a clear snap of them can be so difficult, you’ve got some lovely ones here

  2. Great shots that brought back happy memories of my student days. There are lots of quite tame squirrels in museum gardens in York. I used to love watching them #mysundayphoto

    • Thanks. I haven’t come across Squirrels leaping loudly on roofs, and come to think of it, I have no recollection of hearing a Squirrel make a sound. I’m sure they make sounds, right? Possums seems too close for comfort πŸ™‚

    • Thanks … o yes, they are usually fast. It’s easier to take clear pictures of them when they pause to eat and this tends to be in bursts of what seems like seconds, before they get moving again. πŸ™‚

  3. What a wonderful catch! Beautiful photos. When it comes to wildlife I often lack in that department, I can never get my camera out quick enough nor quiet enough.
